Anyone can help CIVIC fulfill its mission by participating in citizen diplomacy.  As a citizen diplomat, you can help provide a meaningful and memorable experience to each international visitor!  Below are different ways to volunteer with CIVIC.

Dinner Hospitality: Welcome visitors by inviting them to your home for dinner. The visitors’ bios, program summary, and country information are all provided. If necessary, interpreters are provided as well. Your free and open conversation with our guests affords a glimpse into the lives and culture of one another, and plants the seeds of friendship and understanding.

Program Escorts: Volunteering to greet visitors at the airport or to accompany them to professional meetings is an important way to promote international understanding and to learn more about our community.  Serving as a program escort is easy!  Complete the  drivers license review form and email it to civic@uiowa.edu and we’ll get the ball rolling. Questions? Give us a call at 319-335-0351.

Cultural Programming Guide: Do you have knowledge about eastern Iowa communities? Here is your chance to show it off! Volunteer to escort our visitors to the Amana Colonies, a Cedar Rapids Kernels game, a day trip to Kalona, the Hoover Presidential Library and Museum or any number of the extensive cultural excursions that eastern Iowa has to offer.

Professional Resource: Join our comprehensive list of educators, business professionals, activists, and governmental representatives. Share your personal experiences and knowledge with colleagues from around the globe.

Home Stay Accommodation: In order to immerse themselves further in American culture, some delegates request to stay with a host family during their time in eastern Iowa. This is a rewarding experience for everyone!
